OII - Position on the Third Gender

The design of a new category to intersex, brings different problems. Next: how shall we define intersex? OII believes that there will never be a clear definition and that it simultaneously is absolutely no need for a legal definition of intersex. We do not have clear definitions of what a woman and what is a man - we accept only that this is the case.

It is the intention of OII in support of human rights is to work from Inter-sex and understanding to achieve it that there are not two sexes.

The production of a special category for Inter-sex could lead to further marginalization of a group that is poorly understood. Our legal arguments are based on the right of persons to establish their own identity within the two-gender system and, above all in the hope that one day there is no one forced assignments of gender categories.
